Introduction

The Genesis to Revelation Bible Reading plan is the most straightforward of our schedules for a daily reading of Scripture.

This is a tried and true classic reading plan that takes you straight through the books of the Old Testament, followed by those in the New Testament.

The Old Testament

The Old Testament contains 39 books, which can be categorized as follows: Law (5 books), History (12 books), Poetry and Wisdom (5 books) and the Prophets (5 major prophets followed by 12 minor prophets).

The Old Testament begins in the creation narrative and winds its way to the call of Abraham in Gen 12.

This essentially begins the story of Israel, which was formed as a nation at the Exodus.

From here, the Old Testament traces the ups and downs of the nation of Israel, including their 40 years of wandering in the desert, the conquest of the Promised Land, the establishment of Judges, the establishment of the Israelite monarchy, the exile and the return from Exile.

This story is told in the first 17 books of the Old Testament.

Your reading schedule then switches to the Poetry and Wisdom books, followed by the Prophetical books. These finish out the reading of the entire Old Testament.

The New Testament

The New Testament readings incorporate the 27 books of the New Testament starting in the gospels.

This is followed by the Acts of the Apostles (tracing the early Christian church’s expansion).

Afterward, our Bible Reading schedule incorporates all of the Pauline Epistles (in order of their size) and follows that with the General Epistles.

Revelation rounds out your reading with a final reading on December 28th.
