Christian Devotions

Introduction – Bible Devotions

Welcome to our Bible Devotions page where you can access a series of encouraging and challenging Bible messages and devotions on a wide variety of subjects.

#1 – Sacred You

“Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit…” (1 Cor 6:19)

Do you suffer from negative self-images or a faulty self-perception?

Do you live under someone else’s standard of what is good, beautiful, intelligent or worthy?

In this devotion, we reflect upon what it means to be God’s infinitely precious temple.

#2 – Masters of the Universe

“And God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image…and let them rule…over all the earth…'” (Gen 1:26)

Have you ever wondered why you are here?  or what your ultimate purpose is?

In this devotion, we attempt  to give a very short answer to a question that has fascinated philosophers, scientists and theologians for many ages.

It begins with Genesis 1.  Read more in our Devotional #2.

#3 – Simply Divine

“God created man in his own image…male and female he created them.” (Gen 1:27)

What are some of the implications of being created in God’s image? What do we possess as part of our divine inheritance and what does that mean for our lives?

For the answers, read our Devotional #3.

#4 – Freedom of Forgiveness

“My heavenly Father will also do the same to you, if each of you does not forgive his brother from your heart.” (Matt 18:35)

Forgiveness is a strange thing.  It is often difficult to do especially for those we love.  The more we forgive, however, the healthier we become in every respect. But most importantly, forgiveness is something that God requires of his children.

In this devotion we reflect on the important virtue of forgiveness and end with the question, “Is there someone that needs your forgiveness today?”

#5 – The Lord is My Shepherd

“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want…” (Psalm 23)

The shepherd image is one of the most wonderful images in the Bible as it is applied to the Lord.  It beautifully captures the care, love and concern that God lavishes on his people.

In this inspiring devotional, we reflect on Psalm 23 and what it means for God to be our shepherd.

#6 – What is God’s Will For Your Life?

“For this is the will of God, your sanctification…” (1 Thess 4:3)

We often have some strange notions about God’s will for our life.  While we may be more concerned about our future, God is typically more focused on our present.

In this challenging devotion we reflect on 1 Thessalonians 4:3 and on what we know is definitely God’s will for your life.

#7 – Does God Feel Distant?

“And he shall be called Emmanuel, which means, God is with us.” (Matt 1:23)

We have many erroneous concepts about God.  For example, we may think that he’s simply a moral cop, or a great dispenser of blessings when we’re in need or simply someone who is far removed from our day to day reality.

But in Jesus, we want to suggest an image that is truer to who and what God represents.  He is anything but far.

#8 – Being a Member of a Church Body

For the body is not one member but many…” (1 Cor 12:14)

One of the apostle Paul’s most important metaphors for describing the church is a body.  It is an apt description that represents how we (the members of a church) are connected to one another and how we each contribute something to the overall picture.

In this inspiring devotion, we take a look at 1 Corinthians 12:14 and what it means to be a part of the church body.

#9 – Do You Have the Right Perspective?

Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne was standing in heaven, and One [was] sitting on the throne.” (Rev 4:2)

Sometimes life can get pretty difficult and it can seem that the entire world is against us.

In this inspiring devotion, we take a look at Revelation 4:2 where John describes the glorious vision of God’s throne room in heaven. It is when we truly reflect on this sight that we can gain a proper perspective about our own problems.

#10 – Portraits of Suffering in the New Testament

For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you can example for you to follow in His steps.” (1 Peter 2:21)

Suffering is no fun.  We all endure it and question why it happens.  In this devotion we take a look at 1 Peter 2:21 and the way in which Peter’s descriptions of suffering give us a window into how the New Testament describes suffering.

The answer will surprise you and perhaps give you a different perspective for dealing with difficult times.

#11 – Straight Talk

“Moreover, if a fellow believer sins against you, go and tell them their fault, just between the two of you…” (Matt 18:15)

Sometimes, when we encounter conflict with others our first reactions are to fight or fly.  (Or to gossip to our best friends!).

But Jesus gives some very different advice for these situations in Matthew 18:15.

#12 – Don’t Count Your Losses

“I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord…” (Phil 3:8)

What is the most important thing to you?  What is it that you value most in this life?  Where do you place your highest priorities?

Paul provides one answer that compares the things of his former to his life in Christ now in Philippians 3:8.

Read his answer in our Devotions #12.

#13 – Simple Christianity

“What is the greatest commandment…” (Matt 22:36)

Sometimes we tend to make the Christian faith and life a bit too complicated.

In this devotion, Jesus breaks down the Christian faith into two simple and powerful commandments.  If you do these, you are truly living the Christian faith.

#14 – Do You Have Supernatural Love?

“Love is patient, love is kind; It it is not jealous.  Love does not brag; it is not arrogant…” (1 Cor 13:4)

In this inspiring devotion we take a look at 1 Corinthians 13:4 and learn how it is we are able to give the kind of love described there.

#15 – The Bible and Health – Part 1

“Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit..” (1 Cor 6:19)

In this inspiring devotion we take a look at 1 Corinthians 6:19 and what it means that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.  Hint:  It has nothing to do with your waist size or whether you exercise.

#16 – The Bible and Health – Part 2

“Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit..” (1 Cor 6:19)

In this second part of the Bible and Health series, I share that even though the Bible doesn’t talk much about health, it is still wise to strive to be healthy.  I finish up by sharing a resource that was helpful for me in getting back into shape.

#17 – Humble Yourself to Greatness

“When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have ordained; What is man that you take thought of him?” (Psalm 8:3-4)

This week’s devotion looks at Psalm 8 and compares the vastness of creation with our seemingly small size.  However, the Psalm in question ends with a rather surprising twist regarding our identity.
