Taking Time to Read The Bible Every Day
Introduction
Welcome to our Bible Reading Plans orientation page.
As Christians we often desire to be more consistent in our reading the Bible; however, we often lack the motivation or the discipline to make the reading of Scripture a daily habit.
Enter the Bible Reading Plan!
A schedule for reading God’s word helps to keep us on target by breaking down our time in the Bible into manageable chunks.
In addition, a good plan for reading the Bible will provide us with a visual goal that motivates us to continue in our daily Scripture readings and meditations.
Finding time for daily Scripture readings is such a wonderful blessing.
It provides you with ongoing spiritual nourishment and strength, it gives you the mind of Christ, it allows you to spend time with God and it helps to stock your reservoir of wisdom, which you can utilize to live a life of joy, creativity and abundance in the Lord.
Orientation for our Bible Reading Plans
Our reading plans provide reasonable monthly goals
One of the things you will notice with all of our reading plans is that we have purposely built in some down time.
Thus, there are only 25 readings per month and every 7th day also provides you with a break!
We have structured all of our Bible reading schedules in this way because we want to give you the best chance of succeeding in your daily reading of Scripture.
It is tough to read consistently for 30 days in a row. There are days you will be extremely busy or unable to give your reading of Scripture the attention it deserves.
With only 25 days of reading per month, you will have time to catch up if needed or reflect on things you have read.
Rather than aiming for perfection, we prefer to aim for realistic.
Our Bible reading schedules set reasonable daily goals
Our Bible Reading schedules set a goal of reading about 4 chapters per reading session.
If you are a good reader, this will take you roughly 10 minutes a day. This is a very reasonable goal.
This keeps you motivated and diminishes the burden you might feel if there is too much reading required.
Of course, this does not prohibit you from reading for longer periods of time. But again, we would rather give you modest goals, which you consistently keep and can increase over time vs. deflating because you are unable to complete your daily readings.
How to Best Use a Bible Reading Plan
Before you begin a daily reading program
Before embarking on a daily Bible reading program, spend some time with the Lord in prayer.
Give this time of reading over to him (however long that period of time will be.) If you find it useful, make a vow and commit yourself to a particular reading goal. Voice it out loud to God if needed or write it down.
How to approach your daily reading
I want to give you some sage advice regarding your daily Bible reading, and that is, don’t stress about it.
Reading the Bible should be fun (more often than not). Don’t turn it into a chore.
Think of it as your daily time to be with and hear from the Lord. It should be special and enjoyable.
If you fall behind, don’t sweat it. Either catch up if you can, or simply move on to the readings for that day or week.
God is not concerned with your perfect reading attendance. He’s concerned with you and your life. In the grand scheme of things, a few unread chapters do not merit your guilt.
Just move on, progress is the goal, not perfection.
How to get the most from your daily reading of Scripture
Before beginning each session, spend a few moments in prayer. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you insight into the things that you read. Turn your reading time over to God knowing that he rewards those who diligently seek him.
It’s also a good idea to keep a notebook nearby as you read. Your Bible Reading time isn’t necessarily a bible study. You can do that on another occasion. What you are after is consistency.
But as you read, you will likely have some questions or need to look further into a topic.
God will also speak to you about certain things in your life in your reading. He will give you answers to prayer through the Scriptures or show you principles that you can immediately being applying to make dramatic differences in your life.
Having a notebook nearby gives you the ability to jot down these notes, observations and reflections.
Believe me. After a few months of doing this, you will have a great resource of Bible insights and questions.
